is a painter based in the Washington DC area
Barbara works primarily with acrylic paint, Chinese ink, and repurposed materials. Inspired by Chinese calligraphy and the fugitive drive-by scrawls of graffiti art, she employs gestural marks to produce abstract works with a visual language of their own. Informed by the pandemic, she uses materials in her current work that would normally be discarded such as Amazon boxes, pole signs and art fragments on paper. She then transforms these materials with a previous life to create a new narrative through works that convey a sense of energy, unpredictability, and history.
