THE MATERIALITY OF COLLAGE
exploring mark making and texture in collage art
This year I received an Artists and Scholars Project grant from The Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County. The Materiality of Collage is a series of abstract artworks in which I focus on the material aspects of line and texture in the medium of collage. It’s a deep-dive into mark-making and hand papermaking techniques in artist-created collage materials. I’ll use these materials to produce new works for exhibition at the end of this year. This page will be updated with information about what I’ve learned.
Fusing mulberry papers together using water and friction. This technique is called Joomchi and it originated in Korea.
Processing cotton pulp and making paper sheets with a mould and deckle.
